These servers can be deployed with a variety of options, such as memory, and processing core requirements.

They yield a command prompt to the operating system of your choice, secured with an SSL connection.

Standard Configurations

Operating System - Linux Microsoft

Linux hosted servers have a lower cost because of no licensing fees, and they are extremely flexible, cost effective platforms. Linux instances can be managed by SSH prompt, however, after logging into the instance, it is possible to activate VNC or other X-terminal access to a Gnome, KDE or other environment if it is supported by the Linux image you have chosen to deploy.

Microsoft hosted servers provide a Remote Desktop connection to the GUI interface of the Microsoft operating system. Currently you may deploy Server 2003 32-bit or Server 2008 64 bit instances.

Storage

Your instances will consume data storage, which can be purchased incrementally by the gigabyte

Data Transfer

When data is uploaded from the internet, to the storage, then a data transfer has occured, and the amount of data which was transferred costs per gigabyte. Additionally, each time any data is transferred from the storage, to a user requesting it, then that amount of data has been transferred, and it also costs the same per gigabyte.

This means that websites and web applications should understand and calculate their bandwidth transfer needs.

You can configure these servers to be things like database hosts, web servers, application servers e-mail systems, clusters, etc.

If you want us to manage your server for you, we can do that. Our managed services offerings apply to virtual hosted servers and cost less to get support for than if it was a physical server. Our managed services pricing for dedicated hosted servers is lower than other major providers.

These servers run in a shared "virtual private" environment, so your site is on a cluster of servers, and your management console is a "virtual" server for your private instance.

These platforms excel and providing simple MySQL and PHP web applications and sites, but they can also run Python, Ruby and Perl scripts, as well as the Microsoft web utilities like CGI and FrongPage extensions.

These servers don't provide access directly to the command prompt, and they don't run a version of Linux or Windows that allows direct access to the operating system. They are also not available with specific amounts of memory and processing cores. Those kinds of features, and many other additional features, can be found in our Cloud Servers - which are dedicated virtual instances which emulate real hardware, can run any operating system you want, and be managed your way, or through our platforms.
